Chap Goh Meh

Hi there..

I know it is kind of late to post it here. But, info is still an info! Hahah. Remember of Pai Ti Gong festival? Now I want to share some info of Chap Goh Meh.

Many people know that Chap Goh Meh is also called Lantern Festival. It is celebrated on 15th day of Chinese New Year to symbolize the last day of the celebration. But some of people may know that this date is also marked as Valentines Day. Here is what Wikipedia stated:

"Young people were chaperoned in the streets in hopes of finding love. Matchmakers acted busily in hopes of pairing couples. The brightest lanterns were symbolic of good luck and hope. As time has passed, the festival no longer has such implications. Those who do not carry lanterns often enjoy watching informal lantern parades. In addition to eating 'yuanxiao (food)' (Chinese: 元宵; pinyin: yuánxiao), another popular activity at this festival is guessing lantern riddles (which became part of the festival during the Tang Dynasty), which often contain messages of good fortune, family reunion, abundant harvest, prosperity and love."

So, on the day of Chap Goh Meh, I decided to go to Esplanade (or also known as Padang Kota Lama) where the celebration was held there. There were some performances such lion dance, and also performances by Peranakan people while waiting for the grand occasion which is the oranges. Yup, throwing the oranges is the grand occasion of this festive.

Oh wait, throwing oranges? Is there any kind of oranges? Why must be the mandarin oranges?

People believes that Mandarin oranges symbolise the presence of a maiden of marriageable age. When the young maiden throws the orange into the lake or pond, the man who pick it up would be the future match.

And so you can see that all the information like contact number, names and so on will be written on the orange. But today, some people just write good wishes or just sake of meeting new people during Chap Goh Meh celebration. And here, some of photos that I have taken during the occasion.

For me, this is the best video to watch if you want to know how our local politic works. This is what happen in Malaysia now. And I kind of agree with the video.

So watch it. It is worth to watch. A video that doesn't side to any strong party. Both are the same. Oh by the way, hope you guys understand since it is in Bahasa Melayu and no subtitle.

A Thousand Years

A Thousand Years - Christina Perri

Heartbeats fast
Colours and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

One step closer
One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

Pai Ti Gong

Hi there!

Here are some infos to share. Some of you have already known about this and some of you may not. Someone told me about it when I was still a child and I could only remember a few. Therefore, do correct me if I'm wrong about what I'm going to share in this entry.

Pai Ti Gong (some spell Bai Ti Gong) is celebrated on 9th day of Chinese New Year. On the 8th, people who celebrates it will start to prepare necessary things for the occasion. So that is why you probably heard a lot of fireworks and firecrackers when the clock struck 12. It means that the 9th day of Chinese New Year has come.

So what is Pai Ti Gong?

According to the sources (which it was verbally told and still store in my mind), Pai Ti Gong is celebrated by Hokkien people. People celebrate it to give tribute to God Ti Gong. The history started back in China, during Japan invasion there. To avoid from being killed by Japanese, the Chinese hide themselves in sugarcane farm to save their lifes. They stayed there for quite some time and they survived. They believe that God Ti Gong protected them during the survival.

From then on, every night of 8th, the Hokkiens will serve the food to God Ti Gong. I decided to go to Chew Jetty, Penang to experience the occasion and see it with my own eyes.
